Physical property
Javel water is a toxic substance. Its color is close to yellow and its flavor and smell are sharp. It is a 10 to 16% sodium hypochlorite solution.
Product type
Industrial
Interactions
Javel water is unstable and, in the vicinity of light and heat decomposes. When dissolved in water, it produces Hydrochloric acid and Hypochlorous acid, which is highly corrosive and, as a strong oxidizer, is incompatible with most of the materials. Javel water is disinfectant since it releases chlorine.
Production Process
Javel water is prepared by blowing the chlorine gas into a solution of sodium hydroxide.
storage
Keep away from direct sunlight, heat and other sources of ignition. Keep in a cool, dry and suitably ventilated environment. Keep away from all incompatible materials.
