Boric acid is a substance that is found naturally in many foodstuffs. This combination is an acid hydrate of boron oxide which was first prepared by Wilhelm Homberg from the reaction of borax with mineral acids. Boric acid is often used as an antiseptic, insecticide, in agriculture, producing fire retardant and as a raw material in the production of many chemical compounds, but its main application is in tile and ceramic glazing industry and glass production industries
